Beach Activations is a performance art series on Venice Beach where body, land and water meet through participation and movement. Featuring artists working across performance, choreography, sound and embodied ritual, the series bridges institutionally rooted and local Venice art communities, engaging the ocean as a living site for re-imagining shared experience through presence and exchange.

Join us for a 90-minute walking tour through the streets of Venice with artist Rodrigo Arruda. In this small-group experience, Rodrigo will share personal stories connected to local spots throughout the neighborhood, using them as entry points into broader questions around intimacy, vulnerability and the ways Venice’s imagery and stereotypes shape how we encounter the city and one another.
The tour will lead us to the beach, where artist Erin Desmond will instigate participatory rituals exploring vulnerability, attunement, play and the possibilities for transformation that emerge when we enter into responsive connection with another person.
The walking tour begins promptly at 4:30 PM. We’ll move between sites throughout Venice, walking and talking along the way. At 6:00 PM, we’ll make our way to the beach for the participatory experience.
